Desoto Bridge Water Main Replacement Project
A Manatee County Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Project
About The Project
The Desoto Bridge Water Main Replacement project consists of replacing the aging water main located on the east side of the Desoto Bridge in the City of Bradenton. The new water main, a critical component to Manatee County’s infrastructure, will span 5,500 linear feet, connecting the northern and southern parts of Bradenton.
Project Highlights
- Installation of approximately one mile of new water main connecting Palmetto and Bradenton Beach
- Approximately one-half mile of the new water main will be horizontally drilled up to 50 feet below the bottom of the Manatee River (Intracoastal Waterway)
- Horizontal drilling will minimize disruptions to waterway traffic and natural habitats during construction
- Drilling and landside water main pipe installation operations will be in the County right-of-way to minimize traffic disruptions
Community Benefits
- Replaces aging critical water supply infrastructure across the Intracoastal Waterway
- Improves drinking water system resiliency for future extreme weather events
- Enhances drinking water system reliability for residents and businesses in Palmetto and Bradenton Beach
- Increases capacity and water pressure consistency for customers and local fire protection needs
- Avoids potential future water service disruptions due to the FDOT DeSoto Bridge replacement
